13 Days-Tour will lead you through the Ho Chi Minh Trail as well as the Mekong Basin and across Cambodia. Pedal through the highlands of Vietnam, meet friendly villagers and finish with a fantastic ride along with small towns to Siem Reap. In the spirit of pioneering overland expeditions, Asia Adventures created a couple of brand-new adventure tours for you. With the recent opening of a border checkpoint in the North East of Cambodia, you now can bicycle from the capital city of Hanoi to the ancient city of Hoi An and end in the world heritage site of the Angkor Temples. Experiencing a holiday in Vietnam and Cambodia and you will discover the allure of unspoiled and little explored countries which for many travelers with a sense of adventure is irresistible.

Day 1: Hanoi night train to Hue

Later afternoon pick up from your hotel and transfer to Hanoi train station to take an express overnight train to Hue and stay overnight on the train.

Day 2: Cycle through the ancient city of Hue

You will be transferred from the train station to your hotel. After breakfast, you start your cycling adventure to explore the ancient city of Hue. Bike through Hue's King Royal Palace, a succession of the Nguyen Dynasty. In the afternoon you bicycle along the countryside before returning to the city. Enjoy your dinner in the king garden house.

Day 3: Hue cycling to Hoi An

The second day of cycling will be from Hue to Hoi An. Cycle back roads through the countryside from Hue to Vinh Hai Beach. The route passes by rural villages and the picturesque Lang Co lagoon. Ascend the mountain pass with stunning views of the coast, followed by a thrilling 8 kilometers (5 miles) descent to the green rice fields surrounding Danang. End cycling in Danang and drive the last 32 kilometers (20 miles) to Hoi An. Explore dinner in Hoian on your own.

Day 4: Cycle through Hoi An

Today you discover Hoi An by bike. In the morning you cycle through countryside villages and participate in Vietnamese cooking lessons in town, which feature local specialties by one of Vietnam's most talented chefs. Also taste some local seafood at the beach of Hoi An. The old town of Hoi An is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port, dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and street plan reflect both local and foreign influences that have combined to produce this unique heritage site.

Day 5: Cycle from Hoi An to Ngoc Hoi Highland

While you cycle to Ngoc Hoi you pass many old military bases. Bicycles along with tribal villages, rice paddies, and rivers. Wind up the day's bike ride with a relaxing drive to Ngoc Hoi. Ngoc Hoi is a small town located near the border of Laos on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. From Ngoc Hoi it's about 20 kilometers (12 miles) to the Bo Y border.

Day 6: Cycle from Ngoc Hoi to Kontum & Pleiku

Today will be the longest day of your biking adventure. Follow the Ho Chi Minh trail highway to Kontum. There you catch a bus to the summit of a long, high pass to Pleiku. Cycle through beautiful countryside, past rice paddies, and meet friendly locals on your way to Gia Lai province which is located in the center of Vietnam's Central Highlands. The provincial capital, Pleiku, sits at the junction of Routes 19 and 14, making it the crossroads for any exploration of the Highlands.

Day 7: Cycle from Pleiku to Banlung via the Cambodian border

The car transfer to the Cambodian border takes around 2 hours in total. At this point, it is time to say goodbye to the Vietnamese team. After the immigration formalities at the Le Thanh border checkpoint, you meet your Cambodian cycling crew. Start your bike ride from the border to the Banlung town of Ratanakiri. Banlung is one of the most far-flung of the Khmer provincial capitals. You continue your cycling adventure along a recently paved, winding road with some ups and a few fewer downs as you climb into the highlands that are home to the former Ho Chi Minh Trail. You spend the night in the surroundings of Terres Rouge, a traditional-style Khmer house oozing with old-world charm in this remote part of Cambodia.

Day 8: Banlung to Stung Treng

After breakfast, you will be transferred for 1 hour and a half to Kbal Romeas market where you will set out on bikes into Stung Treng province through rice paddies and stop to enjoy the simple pleasures of rural life. Stung Treng is on the Mekong, just about 30 kilometers downstream from the Laos-Cambodia border. We arrive and check Mekong Bird resort, a rural retreat just under nine kilometers from Steung Treng town. After checking in, you will explore its surrounding area by renting a kayak to explore the area on the Mekong River. Dinner will be reserved at the resort.

Day 9: Cycle from Stung Treng to Kratie

An early rise this morning and a local breakfast before we start heading south and cycle along the Mekong River and experience local life along the bank of the Mekong river. We cycle until we reach a highway. From here, we transfer to Kampi and hop on a boat in hopes of seeing the Irrawady dolphin. You then cycle to Kratie Town then board a ferry to Koh Trong where you will spend a night with a homestay. Enjoy tasty Cambodian food with your hosted family.

Day 10: Cycle from Kratie to Kampong Cham

This morning, we transfer south toward the tiny town of Chhloung which has beautiful French colonial-style buildings. We then start our ride passing many Cham communities which are predominantly Muslim. Buddhist pagodas form a pretty contrast with small mosques and the particularly friendly locals will welcome you warmly in each village you pass. Arrive in Kampong Cham in the evening, a city on the Mekong River in southeastern Cambodia. It's known for its French colonial buildings.

Day 11: Cycle from Kampong Cham to Kampong Thom

This morning as you leave Kampong Cham on a paved road along the Mekong River toward Wat Hanchey, We cycle up to Wat Hanchey, a small hilltop pagoda that houses an 8th-century pre-Angkorian temple and offers spectacular views over the Mekong. We then continue our ride, gradually climbing through shady rubber plantations, paddy fields, and typical Khmer villages to Kampong Thmor where highway 6 starts, from where we transfer to Kampong Thom for lunch. After lunch, drive or cycle a few minutes to your hotel for check-in, where you can rest your weary legs. In the evening, you’ll be taken to a local restaurant for dinner.

Day 12: Cycle from Kampong Thom to Siem Reap

After breakfast, we will have a beautiful ride to the ancient temple of Sambo Prei Kuk through paddy fields and small villages. We will have our lunch prepared by the local community near Sambor Preikuk. After which, you will be transferred by vehicle for 2 hours and a half to Tonle Sap. The largest in South East Asia, board a small boat and sail through the traditional floating village of Kampong Phluk, witnessing the residents going about their daily life. It is quite a sight to see a whole bamboo village complete with homes, petrol stations, schools, hairdressers, and even karaoke bars, floating on a lake. (Note: Due to low water levels during the dry season, the boat trip is only possible from July to March. However, an alternative floating village at Chong Khneas can be arranged instead).

Day 13: Explore the Angkor Temples by bike

This morning, begin your cycle exploration of the incredible Angkor temples. Today you will focus on the Small Circuit, which features temple greats such as the Pyramid of Takeo, the jungle-clad Ta Prohm, made famous by the Hollywood blockbuster “Tomb Raider,” and Sras Srang, known as the King's Bathing Pond. See the impressive Royal City of Angkor Thom. After lunch, it is time to take on the majestic Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious building. Return to your hotel to freshen up. We enjoy a final farewell dinner this night accompanied by a traditional Khmer Apsara dance. The Apsaras are legendary characters from the ancient Khmer tale of Reamker, which is closely related to the Hindu Ramayana. End The Tour.
